Technical Specs

Power: 1100W

Max Cutting Width: 120 mm

Sliding: Yes

Single Bevel: Yes

Double Bevel: No

Blade Size: 210 mm

Laser: No

At just £85 this mitre saw is a bit limited in the features it offers. You won’t find a laser guide in this device or any other decent add ons. It will however cut through wood, steel and plastic with the same blade which makes it perfect for the home.

This saw is quite compact as well so it will easily fit in garage or cupboard, ready to get out when you need it. Weighing in at just 6.4kg it is the lightest mitre saw we have reviewed to date.

Main Features

You won’t find a laser guide on this saw but it does come with a dust bag. The blade will cut through metal, wood and plastic so there is no need to buy specialised blades with this saw.

How well does the Evolution Fury3-B cut?

Given the low price, it is not surprising that this saw comes with a low cutting capacity. The saw features a 210 mm blade with a maximum cut depth of just 120mm. Not ideal if you are planning on cutting larger pieces.

Even though it has a smaller cutting capacity it makes up for it due to the fantastic blade. This thing will cut through anything like butter so is a great multipurpose saw to have to hand.

Conclusion

The Evolution Fury3-B won’t be taken on site anytime soon but that isn’t really who it is aimed at. If you are looking for a professional level saw try one by Bosch or DeWalt. If you just need a great saw to have at home this is a great choice. If you need to cut larger pieces though you are better off going with the Rage3.

DeWalt DW777L Review

DeWalt DW777LThe DeWalt DW777L definitely comes under the professional bracket. With both 110V and 240V versions available it is perfect for taking on site.

This saw lacks some of the niceties of the other brands but it makes up for it with pure robustness. If you need a saw that is going to last for many years then this is it. The durability comes at a cost though with this saw generally retailing for around £400.

Check out Amazon for the latest pricing.

Technical Specs

Power: 1600W

Max Cutting Width: 265 mm

Sliding: No

Single Bevel: No

Double Bevel: No

Blade Size: 255 mm

Laser: No

The DW777L features a 1600W motor and a cutting capacity of 265 x 62 mm. This model doesn’t come with a laser guide, dust bag like other models but this thing is built like a brick. Weighing in at 17 kg you aren’t going to want to be lugging this around everywhere.

Main Features

The DeWalt DW777L is light on features it does however have a 50° mitre capacity both left and right. This thing is solid and does what it says on the tin.

How does the DeWalt DW777L cut?

So does this device cut well? Yes, yes it does. So you should expect for the price. It may be heavy but this weight is ideal for making sure everything remains stable when cutting. The last thing you want is to be welding a spinning saw of death and feel like it is going to fly off the table.

This saw produces clean, precise cuts even without a laser guide. You can see from the Amazon reviews that everyone loves this saw even at the price.

Makita MLS100 Review

Makita MLS100The Makita MLS100 is mid range mitre saw with a decent amount of extras for a reasonable price. A bit more expensive than the number one Evolution RAGE3-S+ but with out as many features.

The MLS100 lacks a laser guide but does come with a dust bag for dust extraction.

At £167 it is aimed at the DIY enthusiast and isn’t really up for professional use. This saw will cut up to 130mm which is less than some of the others we have reviewed.

Technical Specs

Power: 1500W

Max Cutting Width: 130 mm

Sliding: No

Single Bevel: No

Double Bevel: No

Blade Size: 255 mm

Laser: No

The Makita MLS100 is a bit more expensive than the recommended Evolution RAGE3-S+ in this range. However, what it lacks in features it makes up in precision. This machine has more precise cutting than the Rage3 and would therefore be better suited for cutting picture frames and door frames.

Main Features

The MLS100 comes with a 255mm cutting blade which is capable of cutting up to 133mm. It comes with a dust bag, vertical vice, holder set and triangular rule.

How good does the Makita MLS100 cut?

This saw produces very clean cuts. Although if you need it to be really precise you may have to remove some of the added accessories which get in the way. For safety it comes with a clear blade guard so you can still see what you are cutting with a bit of extra protection.

Overall the MLS100 has a more precise cut than other machines in this price range and is ideal for things like skirting, picture frames and flooring.

The only downside is it can only cut up to 133mm so you might be better off with the Evolution Rage3 S+ or Bosch GCM 8 SJL if you need deeper cuts.

Lets see it in action

So you can get an idea of what you are buying here is a video of it in action.

Conclusion

The Makita MLS100 is not quite up to the professional level of some of the other mitre saws but produce very precise cuts for the price.

Evolution RAGE3-S+ Review

Evolution RAGE3 S+Not all mitre saws are created equal. Generally if you want features such as laser guidance, dust bags and a deep cutting capacity you have to pay the higher prices. The Evolution RAGE3-S+ bucks that trend by offering all of this for just over £100.

This mid to low level metre saw is clearly aimed at the hobby user. However if you are in need of mitre saw for occasional use this is the one I would recommend.

All these features do come and a cost and that is it is not as precise as others on the market such as the Bosch GCM 8 SJL but is a third of the price!

Technical Specs

Power: 1500W

Max Cutting Width: 220 mm

Sliding: Yes

Single Bevel: Yes

Double Bevel: No

Blade Size: 210 mm

Laser: Yes

Evolution has a done a great job in designing the RAGE3 S+. The quality is very good for the price and this thing feels pretty solid in it’s build quality. The multipurpose blade is very versatile and can cut through metal, wood and plastic easily.

The Evolution RAGE3 S+ is probably the best mitre saw for DIY enthusiasts or hobby crafters. It comes with all the features of the more professional models but without the high price tag.

The one downside to this is it is not as precise as it’s more expensive competitors. If you need a metre saw for cutting things like door frames or picture frames, where every millimetre counts you might be better shelling out a bit more.

However, not everyone needs that level of precision and for everything else this is a great buy. Lets have a look at the features.

Main Features

Unlike some of the more expensive models this model comes with an accessory pack making it even more of a bargain. In addition to the saw and multipurpose blade it also comes with a dust bag, top clamp and side extensions. Although the dust bag doesn’t quite manage to collect as much dust as it should it is still a nice addition.

The Evolution RAGE3-S+ also comes with laser guidance which is usually only available in more expensive models.

How well does the Evolution RAGE3-S+ cut?

A tool is only as good as the output of it’s results. The Evolution RAGE3-S+ has a powerful 1500W motor driving the blade. This is more than the more expensive Bosch GCM 800 SJ so should give a smooth cutting experience.

The multipurpose blade has a good 300 mm x 75 mm cutting capacity due to the sliding ability. As the blade can cut through metal it has no problem with pesky nails in reclaimed wood.

This saw is also capable of single bevel cuts as well as mitre cuts.

As mentioned previously this saw is as accurate as some and can sometimes be 1° out. It is great for flooring, skirting and other jobs though.

Conclusion

This mitre saw is great for the DIY enthusiast and is a great tool to have in your garage. At just over £100 it isn’t a big loss if you don’t get as much use out of it as you had hoped.

Bosch GCM 8 SJL Review

Bosch GCM 8 SJLThe Bosch GCM 8 SJL is the bigger and slightly more expensive brother to the GCM 800 SJ that we reviewed previously. This time they have improved on the last model with better dust management, a laser guide and larger cutting capacity.

However, coming in at over £80 more than it’s lesser sibling is the difference really worth the extra.

This saw doesn’t seem to go on offer much and sits around the £300 mark. Check out Amazon to see if it has gone down.

Technical Specs

Power: 1600W

Max Cutting Width: 312 mm

Sliding: Yes

Single Bevel: No

Double Bevel: No

Blade Size: 216 mm

Laser: Yes

This is an excellent mitre saw by Bosch and does certainly seem to tick the boxes that the GCM 800 SJ was missing, however for this price, it isn’t really good value for money. Worth seeing if you can get it for cheaper than £300. Anyway before we dismiss it, lets have a look at the features.

Main Features

With the additional features this model is up to the task for either home improvement or professional jobs. Bosch build quality shines through with this solid piece of machinery.

How well does the Bosch GCM 8 SJL cut?

It may look good but the cutting needs to be up to par to justify the price. The Bosch GCM 8 SJL has a larger cutting capacity at 70 x 312 mm compared to other models. It also boasts a wider cutting angle at 52° left and 60° right. This saw cuts very well which is in part to the 1,600W power motor. One thing you might notice is the slow start which takes a little while to get used to but is a useful feature to make sure you are lined up properly.

Given the extra cutting capacity this saw is ideal for a number of uses such as timber cutting, flooring and skirting. This model also comes with a depth stop which makes it great for trenching.

Safety

With a motor powerful enough to cut your arm off, lets see what Bosch has done to make this thing safe.

Bosch has greatly improved the dust management on this model which should mean less stopping to blow the dust away. This machine has 2 point dust extraction but doesn’t come with a dust bag. It works best when hooked up to dust extractor.

Conclusion

The Bosch GCM 8 SJL is great saw and is definitely a step up from the GCM 800 SJ reviewed previously. I am a bit biased when it comes to Bosch products and tend to trust them over others. At £300 it is certainly at the mid-high end for mitre saws but I think the addition of the more powerful motor and laser guide make up for the price.

Bosch GCM 800 SJ Review

Bosch GCM 800 SJToday we are looking at the Bosch GCM 800 SJ which comes in at mid range at around £298. The GCM 800 SJ boasts high precision, great build quality and power for a good price. At this price point it is aimed at the DIY enthusiast but Bosch are known for their high quality tools so is a good choice for tradesmen on a budget.

You can’t go too wrong with Bosch and this mitre saw is no exception. At the time of writing Amazon had it on offer for around £219 which at that price makes this an even better bargain.

Hopefully it will still be on offer at Amazon.

Technical Specs

Power: 1400W

Max Cutting Width: 270 mm

Sliding: Yes

Single Bevel: No

Double Bevel: No

Laser: No

For anyone looking for decent power tool for home use this will certainly do the job. Their are cheaper saws available but if you are looking for quality this should certainly be in your top 10. Check out the main features in depth below.

Main Features

The Bosch GCM 800 SJ is a feature packed mitre saw. With a powerful 1400 W motor it should be able to handle all but the toughest cutting applications. This machine weighs 13.5kg which is not a bad weight making it a good choice for taking on site.

How does the Bosch GCM 800 SJ cut?

It doesn’t matter how many feature a saw has, unless it can do the one job it was designed for well. Luckily the GCM 800 SJ lives up to the Bosch name and cuts efficiently and accurately straight out of the box.

The saw has a large 70 x 270 mm cutting capacity with a no load speed of 5,500 rpm making it perfect for flooring and skirting boards.

It is capable of a 47° left and right metre cut and comes with mitre detents at 45, 22.5, 15, 0 angles both left and right.

Unlike it’s brother the GCM 8 SJL this saw does not come with a adjustable depth-stop which might make trench cuts difficult. This saw only comes with one cutting blade but others are readily available.

Safety

The Bosch GCM 800 SJ has a few built in safety features to reduce the chance of you chopping your fingers off. It features a vertical handle with a lower guard lock out button that works whether you are left or right handed,

The dust management is OK but it doesn’t have a dust bag so you may need to beware of dust when cutting.

Conclusion

The Bosch GCM 800 SJ is a great mitre saw for both home and professional use. Given it’s weight it would be a great choice to have in the van to take around on site.
